What the Niu Lai meme generator does

Niu Lai (牛来) became an internet phenomenon almost by accident. Made by a two-person crew — director Xin Yumeng and his mother, writer and composer Sun Lifang — over roughly five years on a budget of just a few thousand yuan, the film reached cinemas on 5 August 2026 with a single hand-painted poster and no marketing. Audiences drawn in by that lovely poster found deliberately rough, stiff 3D animation instead, and the gap between the two is what turned the film into a meme: it was mocked as “worse than AI”, and then that very insult became a badge of honour for its human, hand-made craft.

This generator lets you play with that phenomenon directly. Rather than overlaying text on a fixed template, it produces a brand-new image every time from your prompt, in the style you choose. Want the gorgeous side? Pick the hand-drawn poster or ink-wash preset. Want the joke? Reach for crude 3D, “worse than AI”, or the two-panel expectation-vs-reality format. Prefer sincere tribute art? Try the cow-warrior or the timid-calf portrait. Each preset comes pre-loaded with a prompt tuned for that look, so you can generate something good on your very first try and then edit from there.

The panel above is the whole tool. On the left you write your prompt, pick a style preset, and choose an aspect ratio — square for social feeds, portrait for a poster, or widescreen for a film still. The button shows the credit cost up front (about four credits per image), so there are no surprises. On the right you preview and download the result. You can fill everything in without an account; signing in and adding credits only happens when you actually generate, and your draft is preserved across that step so you never lose your work.

Because Niu Lai is a living story — its box-office total is still climbing and tracked daily — we keep the generator honest. Every image is an original AI creation in the film’s spirit; we never pass generated pictures off as the studio’s official artwork, and we don’t host the film or its subtitles. What you make here is yours: a fresh take on the little calf that a whole country decided to root for.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Niu Lai meme generator?

It is an AI image tool that turns a text prompt into an original Niu Lai–style image. Instead of pasting a caption onto an existing picture, it generates a fresh image in the style you pick — hand-drawn poster, crude 3D, ink-wash, and more.

Do I need to sign in to generate?

You can fill in the whole panel — prompt, style and size — without an account. When you hit Generate you sign in with Google (your prompt is saved across the redirect), then add credits, since NiuLai has no free generation tier.

How much does each meme cost?

About 4 credits per image. Credits come in one-time packs starting at $5 for 100 credits (roughly 25 memes); there is also an optional monthly plan. Credits from packs never expire.

Are these the film’s official images?

No. Every image is an original AI generation inspired by the style of the viral Niu Lai animation. We never present AI output as the studio’s official artwork, and we do not host the film itself.

Which style should I start with?

For the classic joke, try “expectation vs reality” or “worse than AI”. For tribute art, try the hand-drawn poster or timid-calf portrait. You can switch presets any time.
